HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky men's basketball program has locked down one of its biggest season-opening games in school history as the Norse will get the 2024-25 season underway with a trip down to the sunshine state to take on ACC power Florida State on Monday, November 4 inside the Tucker Center.
 
The showdown will be the first meeting between the Norse and Seminoles all-time.
 
Northern Kentucky is looking to return to the top of the Horizon League and earn the program's fifth bid to the NCAA Tournament in the past eight years. The Norse advanced all the way to the Horizon semifinals in 2023-24 and will return a strong core that includes Sam Vinson, Trey Robinson, LJ Wells, Keeyan Itejere, Randall Pettus II and Hubertas Pivorius, amongst others. 
 
To go with a strong returning unit, the Norse also went out and added a plethora of talent in both the transfer portal and from the high school ranks for a squad that will be one of the favorites in the Horizon once again this season.
 
The Norse are led by head coach Darrin Horn, in his sixth season patrolling the NKU sideline. Under his leadership, NKU has advanced to at least the Horizon semifinal in all five of his seasons in Highland Heights and his teams have posted a record of 98-56 (.636) overall. He enters the 2024-25 campaign just two wins away from 100 for his NKU career.
 
Florida State is coming of a 17-16 record in 2023-24, which includes a mark of 10-10 in ACC play. The Seminoles advanced all the way to the ACC Tournament quarterfinals to go with a record of 10-7 inside the Tucker Center. FSU will have a new look as a squad in 2024-25, headlined by the 21st nationally ranked incoming freshman class by 247, to go with high-end talent from the transfer portal.
 
FSU is led by the most successful coach in Seminole history, Leonard Hamilton, who is Florida State's all-time winningest coach. Over his 22 seasons at the helm, the Seminoles have gone 421-281 overall along with 15 postseason appearances. To go with owning the FSU school record, Hamilton is also fifth all-time in ACC history in victories and is the winningest active coach in the conference.
