Women’s Soccer’s win streak snapped in shutout vs. defending champion Milwaukee

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – In a rematch of the 2023 Horizon League Championship match, the Northern Kentucky women's soccer program saw its two-game winning streak snapped by Horizon League defending champion Milwaukee by a 2-0 margin at the NKU Soccer Stadium on Thursday night.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Lilly Yordy finished with a game-high five shot attempts. She also tied for the match lead with two shots on target. It tied for the fifth-most shot attempts by a Horizon student-athlete so far this season.
- Sofia Wilmes recorded NKU's other shot on goal.
- Donna Bundy and Megan Gessner split the game between the pipes. Bundy posted three saves in 64-plus minutes while Gessner notched two in 25-plus minutes of action.
- The Panthers held a large edge in total shots (24 to 9), corner kicks (13 to 2) and shots on target (7 to 3).
- Northern Kentucky led the contest with five saves.
- The Norse entered Thursday's match on a two-game winning streak to go along with being winners in three of their last four matches overall.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Milwaukee controlled much of the action over the first 45 minutes of play. The Panthers held a large advantage in shots (11 to 3) and corners (7 to 1). Despite the edge in play, the match was tied at 0-0 at the half.
- Northern Kentucky turned it on to start the second half as NKU attempted four shots in the first four minutes of the period, which included two shots on target.
- Milwaukee finally broke through to break the deadlock with a goal in the 60th minute.
- The Panthers followed it up with another tally in the 64th minute to make it a 2-0 contest.
- It was all Milwaukee from that point on as the Panthers closed out the 2-0 victory in both team's conference opener.

The Norse remain in Highland Heights and return to the pitch on Sunday, September 22 for NKU's Senior Day celebration at Scudamore Field! The conference clash against visiting Green Bay will get underway at 1 PM ET. To go with Senior Day, the contest will also feature a Soctoberfest celebration, with a stein giveaway for fans in attendance.
