Women’s Basketball leads wire-to-wire in dominant team performance over IU Indy

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.  – The Northern Kentucky Norse Women's Basketball team looked to follow up back-to-back conference wins over Milwaukee and Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon as they took on IU Indy at Truist Arena. The Norse suffocated the Jaguar offense early, allowing just 17 first-half points, jumping out to a massive lead and never looking back. Multiple players shined in the game, including former Jaguars Jaci Jones and Abby Wolterman, as well as standout games from Halle Idowu and Macey Blevins. NKU (3-4) now sits alone in sixth place in the Horizon League standings.

THE FACTS
FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 80, IU Indy – 63
LOCATION: Truist Arena - Highland Heights, Ky.
RECORDS: NKU: 6-12 (3-4 HL), RMU: 4-13 (3-5 HL)

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
- Halle Idowu came through with a major performance after struggling against Robert Morris. The Northeastern grad transfer poured in 19 points on 8-11 shooting from the field, grabbing nine boards and blocking three shots. It marks the fourth time in five games she's scored at least 15 points.
- Macey Blevins delivered another solid performance on both ends, finishing with 16 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals. She's scored in double figures in all but four games this season.
- Abby Wolterman dropped a season-high 11 points, all of which came within the first 16 minutes of game time. Her five made field goals also marked a season-high.
- Jaci Jones also had a career day, but hers came distributing the ball as she dished out eight dimes with just one turnover. Jones is currently the active leader for a single season in NKU's D1 history in assist-turnover ratio, with a 2.58 mark this year.
- Mya Meredith posted double-digit rebounds for the second time this year, while Kalissa Lacy drained two threes off the bench, finishing with nine points.

NORSE NOTES
- Neither offense could get going in the first quarter, as NKU jumped out to an 8-3 lead five minutes in before both teams went on a four-minute scoring drought. The Norse led 11-5 after the first period.
- NKU's offense exploded in the second quarter, shooting 66.7% from the floor and 5-6 from three. A three from Lacy started a monstrous 17-0 run that gave NKU a 30-7 lead midway through the second quarter, and the offense kept cooking as they led by as much as 27 in the period. NKU's 17 first-half points allowed marked the fewest in a first half since allowing 14 against Cincinnati on December 21, 2022.
- IU Indy threatened to make a third-quarter run but their efforts were ultimately cut short as the Norse kept knocking down shots, sparked by 11 points in the period from Idowu as well as threes from Noelle Hubert and Kalissa Lacy. The Jaguars cut into the lead a little bit late in the fourth, but an all-around elite performance from the Norse resulted in a 17-point victory.
