Women’s Basketball drops road contest to Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky Norse Women's Basketball entered a Wednesday night matchup at Youngstown State on a three-game winning streak, looking to build on that with a road game at the Penguins, an opponent they fell to at home back in December. A chippy contest saw 48 fouls between the two teams, as nine total players finished with four-plus fouls, and Youngstown State was able to control the stretch, sealing a nine-point victory.

THE FACTS
FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 66, Youngstown State – 75
LOCATION: Beeghly Center - Youngstown, Ohio
RECORDS: NKU: 7-12 (3-5 HL), YSU: 8-10 (3-5 HL)

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
- Kalissa Lacy played one of her best games of the season, pouring in 19 points including four first-half threes. Her 19 points tied a career-high, one she set back in December against La Salle. She added five rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
- Mya Meredith dropped 15 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out a pair of assists. She's reached double-digit points in four of her last five games.
- Halle Idowu came close to a double-double once again, grabbing 10 rebounds and scoring nine points. Idowu also recorded a team-high three assists.

NORSE NOTES
- Five Norse finished with four or more fouls, as Idowu, Meredith, Abby Wolterman, and Macey Blevins finished with four, while Jaci Jones fouled out. The Norse recorded 26 team fouls, which tied a season-high, as the Norse also had 26 on November 30th against Eastern Kentucky. Youngstown converted a high percentage of their foul shots, making 20 of their first 23 attempts before missing a pair with under 30 seconds to go.
- Northern Kentucky had maybe their best game from behind the arc all season, shooting 8-15 from downtown. It was NKU's first game on the year shooting above 50% from three with over 10 attempts. The Norse have been knocking down the three ball as of late, shooting 49% from three-point land in their last three games.
- After a three from Kalissa Lacy just 34 seconds into the second quarter, YSU led for the rest of the game, despite the Norse threatening on multiple occasions. The Penguins led by ten with just a little over three minutes to go, but NKU cut that lead to just three by the 1:10 mark. Youngstown State was able to pull away by knocking down late free throws, and limiting NKU to zero made field goals over the final 90 seconds.
