Norse shut down in second half after hot start vs. Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Northern Kentucky Women's Basketball team faced a tough challenge on Thursday night when they traveled to Green Bay to take on the Phoenix. A rejuvenated Norse squad that saw Halle Idowu playing her best ball in weeks saw Northern Kentucky take command early, holding an eight-point lead at the half and one that rose to twelve points in the third quarter. A 17-0 Green Bay run midway through the third quarter buried NKU's hopes as the Norse were outscored by 27 in the second half, scoring just 17 points in the final 20 minutes.

THE FACTS
FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 59, Green Bay – 78
LOCATION: Kress Center - Green Bay, Wisconsin
RECORDS: NKU: 3-12 (0-4 HL), GB: 10-5 (3-1 HL)

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
- Halle Idowu shined early on, and finished with her first double-double as a Norse, scoring 16 points, grabbing ten rebounds, and dishing out three assists.
- Mya Meredith knocked down three threes, her most in a game with NKU, and finished with 13 points and six rebounds.
- Macey Blevins scored 12 points, going 5-9 inside the arc, but struggled outside, as she went 0-6 from downtown.
- Aside from Idowu, Meredith, and Blevins, the Norse struggled to create offense, making just six field goals and shooting 28.6% from the field. The second half saw the Norse go ice-cold offensively, shooting 20% in the final 20 minutes and going just 2-18 in the fourth.

NORSE NOTES
- Meredith started well in the first quarter, making two of her first three shots from deep, and scoring ten of the first 14 points for the Norse. NKU held a four-point advantage at the end of the period.
- Halle Idowu took over in the second quarter, scoring or assisting on five straight buckets as she helped the Norse maintain their lead. Two late threes in the second from Kalissa Lacy and Kamora Morgan gave the Norse an eight-point cushion at the break.
- The Norse looked composed out of the halftime break, increasing their lead to twelve with back-to-back buckets to open the frame. After an Idowu layup at the 6:02 mark in the third, the Norse made just two more field goals the rest of the way: A Mya Meredith three with nine minutes to go in the fourth and a Macey Blevins layup four minutes later.
- The second-half struggle has been a common theme for the 3-12 Norse. In the first half, NKU has a point differential of -23 on the year, but that mark jumps to -90 in second halves. Northern Kentucky has just a 3-6 record when leading at halftime.
