Women’s Basketball picks up big conference road win in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Northern Kentucky Women's Basketball team closed out their road trip in the Dairy State taking on the Milwaukee Panthers, with both teams looking for a conference victory as they entered the game with just one Horizon League win between them. After a slow start, Northern Kentucky battled back in the second quarter and stayed in the game in the second half, then pulled away late to earn its third road victory. The win marked the first Horizon League victory for Coach Jeff Hans and crew.

THE FACTS
FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 68, Milwaukee – 65
LOCATION: Klotsche Center - Milwaukee, Wisconsin
RECORDS: NKU: 4-12 (1-4 HL), MKE: 4-13 (1-5 HL)

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
- Mya Meredith led all scorers with 20 points, the most she's had in a Norse uniform. Meredith went 7-14 from the field, grabbing six rebounds and dishing out three assists as she led the Norse to victory.
- Halle Idowu finished with 16 points, scoring eight in the fourth quarter. Her scoring down the stretch provided a big boost for the Norse, as well as her three steals and four rebounds.
- Jaci Jones ended her cold streak shooting the ball and drilled three three-pointers, while also dishing out seven assists to just two turnovers in the victory.
- Abby Wolterman played a season-high 27 minutes and was an integral part of the victory, grabbing eleven rebounds, a career-high. Seven of her eleven rebounds came on the offensive side of the ball.

NORSE NOTES
- A slow start saw the Norse fall behind by eight in the first quarter. A Macey Blevins three was the only field goal that Northern Kentucky scored in the first 7:19 of action. After cutting it to five to end the first, the Norse hung around for most of the second quarter, staying within two or three possessions. After going down eight with four minutes to go, the Norse rallied with a 12-2 scoring run to end the half with a two-point lead. Jones' three second-quarter threes had her leading the Norse with nine first-half points.
- After shooting 21 threes in the first half, the Norse switched up their offense in the second and attacked the paint, where 22 of their 36 second-half points came from. Meredith, Wolterman, and Idowu helped the Norse offense punish the Panthers down low, as their physicality kept them in the game. Every bucket the Norse scored in the final eight minutes came inside the painted area.
- The Norse and Panthers traded baskets in the fourth until a 6-0 run late by Halle Idowu powered NKU to a three-point lead with just over a minute to go. Northern Kentucky's defense held up as they forced a turnover and a long three-pointer that fell off to hold on and get a big road victory.
