Women’s Basketball takes road loss at Wright State

FAIRBORN, Ohio – After a dominant home win over Detroit Mercy on Wednesday, Northern Kentucky University Women's Basketball looked to build momentum as they took on Wright State on Saturday. The Raiders got off to a blazing start, taking a 14-point lead early in the second quarter, but the Norse battled back throughout the game, cutting it to two near the end of the third. NKU struggled in late-game offensive execution though, and Wright State came away with an eight-point victory on their home court.

THE FACTS
FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 67, Wright State – 75
LOCATION: Nutter Center - Fairborn, Ohio
RECORDS: NKU: 8-16 (5-8 HL), WSU: 6-17 (4-9 HL)

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
- Macey Blevins crossed the 1,000 career point mark with a season-high 24-point performance. Blevins shot 9-20 from the field and added six rebounds and four assists on her historic day.
- Mya Meredith again scored in double figures, finishing with 16 points on 6-12 shooting, and also did work on the defensive end with two steals and a block. Her 16 points tied for the third-most she's had in a game this season.
- Halle Idowu scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds.
- Anna Hamilton scored six points, grabbed four rebounds, and came up with two steals.
- Wright State had four players finish in double figures, but forward Amaya Staton had the biggest impact on both ends, ending up with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

NORSE NOTES
- The Raiders' hot start gave the Norse a big hill to climb, taking a 24-12 lead by the end of the first. 20 of Wright State's 24 first-quarter points came in the paint, as they finished with 46 in the game. Their scoring around the rim proved to cause trouble for the Norse and was a key factor in their victory.
- The Norse and Raiders went back and fourth in the second quarter, but still faced an eleven-point deficit heading into the half.
- Five offensive rebounds in the third quarter helped the Norse claw their way back into it. Key plays from Blevins, Hamilton, and Meredith cut the Raider lead down to a pair with two minutes to go, but WSU ended the quarter on a 5-0 run to get it back to seven.
- The two squads went back and forth for the first few minutes of the final period. A three from Jaci Jones with just over two and a half minutes to play cut the Raider lead to seven. Three turnovers on the next three Wright State possesions should have helped the Norse chip into the lead, but NKU's only points for the rest of the game came on a Macey Blevins three with just 25 ticks on the clock.
