Idowu’s heroics lift Norse over IU Indy

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Northern Kentucky University Women's Basketball returned to action on Saturday, taking on the Jaguars of IU Indy. The Norse dominated IU Indy in Truist Arena on January 11, but the return game in The Jungle saw the two squads go down to the wire. Five Norse finished in double figures in an 82-79 win that saw clutch plays on both ends from star forward Halle Idowu. NKU now sits tied for fourth place in the league with Oakland and Detroit Mercy at 6-8.

- Freshman duo Kamora Morgan and Anna Hamilton also finished in double figures, as Morgan scored 14 while Hamilton put up 11.
- Abby Wolterman grabbed 11 rebounds, including five on the offensive end. NKU is now 3-0 when Wolterman records five or more offensive boards.

NORSE NOTES
- IU Indy came out firing in the first period, scoring 21 points before the first media timeout. The Norse got it down to five by the end of the quarter. The Norse took back the lead with 4:03 left in the second, thanks to a couple of buckets from Blevins and Idowu. Idowu put in a layup near the end of the first half as NKU trailed by two at the break.
- The third quarter was all Kamora Morgan, who scored 12 straight points in under two and a half minutes. Her scoring tear helped the Norse stay in the game before the Jaguars went on a 9-0 run to take an eight-point lead. NKU knocked down six free throws at the end of the third to stay within two.
- Hamilton, Blevins, and Idowu all helped to turn the tides for the Norse in the fourth, as both sides kept trading baskets. A big and-one from Hamilton gave the Norse a one-point lead with under four minutes to go. After an offensive cold stretch from both sides, Idowu hit a layup to give NKU a two-point lead. A layup from Katie Davidson, who scored 31 points, tied the game at 79 with 24 seconds to go. Kamora Morgan air-balled a fallaway jumper near the end of the possession, but Idowu scooped it out of the air and put it back up and in for a crucial clutch moment with just four ticks left on the clock. On the ensuing inbound possession, Idowu clinched the game with a late steal, then knocked down a free throw to give the Norse a big road win.
