HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — An experienced, talented Division II transfer is set to spend his grad year in Highland Heights, as Northern Kentucky head men's basketball coach Darrin Horn has announced the signing of Kael Robinson.
"Kael was a top priority for us due to the importance of his position with how we play and what a great fit we think he will be for us," said Head Coach Darrin Horn. "He has been both extremely productive and efficient as a college player. He brings a high skill level and tremendous basketball IQ with a veteran's approach to winning and development."
Robinson, a 6'7 forward from Hamilton, New Zealand, comes to NKU after a dominant senior season at Montana State (Billings), where he was named First Team All-GNAC and GNAC All-Tournament Team for his performance.
In his lone year at MSUB, Robinson was dominant, averaging 17.4 PTS, 6.9 REB, 2.7 AST, and 1.1 BLK per game for the Yellowjackets. He led the GNAC in points (573) and ranked second in points per game (17.4), rebounds (229), and blocks (35).
Prior to his one season at MSUB, Robinson played three seasons at Rocky Mountain College, an NAIA program in Billings, Montana. During his time with the Battlin' Bears at RMC, he was named Frontier Conference Freshman of the Year, First Team All-Frontier League as a sophomore, and Second Team All-Frontier League as a junior. His averages went up every season, culminating in a junior season that saw him score 18.6 points per game and grab 8.0 rebounds per game.
In his four seasons at the NAIA/DII level, Robinson racked up 1,600 points, 563 rebounds, 278 assists, 97 steals, and 68 blocked shots. He is a true threat from everywhere on the floor, having shot above 47% in three of four collegiate seasons while hitting a total of 120 3PT baskets during his career.
