Will Shortt signs with NKU Men’s Basketball

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University Norse men's basketball announced its first addition in the spring of 2026, signing forward Will Shortt on Wednesday. A native of Sydney, Australia, while growing up in New Zealand, Shortt played his first two seasons of college ball at Niagara.

"We are excited about the addition of Will to our team," said Norse head coach Darrin Horn. "He brings much needed size and athleticism and his skill set will fit perfectly in our system on both ends. In addition, even though he has been a productive Division 1 player already, we are confident he can make great strides very quickly that will make him of even greater impact."

In his two seasons with the Purple Eagles, Shortt made 61 appearances, including 25 starts in his sophomore season. In 2025-26, the 6'8" forward logged 19.4 minutes per game, averaging 6.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks a night. Shortt shot 60.5% from the field as a sophomore on 4.9 attempts a game. Will made a major impact late in the season, averaging 9.5 points and 5.4 rebounds over the final 13 games, and put up career-highs of 22 points (2/27 vs. Quinnipiac) and 13 rebounds (1/24 vs. Sacred Heart) during that stretch. Shrott logged three double-doubles on the year, all coming in conference play. He also blocked a career-high four shots in a January 4 matchup with Fairfield. Over his college career, Shortt has scored 308 points, grabbed 226 rebounds, and blocked 43 shots.

Before arriving at Niagara, Shortt played at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, one of the top prep basketball schools in the nation. He played club basketball for Basketball Auckland and graduated from Auckland Grammar School in 2022.
