Gerak to Step Down as Head Coach

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — Northern Kentucky University softball head coach Morgan Gerak has announced her resignation, citing family reasons, effective with the conclusion of the season.

"We want to thank Morgan for her passion, leadership and contributions to NKU, as well as her dedication to our student-athletes," said Interim Director of Athletics John Mason. "We wish her and her family nothing but the best as they begin this new chapter."

The Norse recently concluded the 2026 season with a 26-25 overall record, capturing the Horizon League Championship title and advancing to the NCAA Division I Softball Championship for the second time in program history. NKU also posted its highest-ever finish in the Horizon League regular-season standings, finishing second in the conference.

"It has been my privilege to be the head coach at Northern Kentucky University the last two years," Gerak said. "NKU is a special place to coach, and I'm incredibly grateful to Coach Gleason for giving me my first full-time position on her staff. I will be stepping away from college softball to serve my family in this next stage of life.

"To the student-athletes I've had the opportunity to coach over the last few years — thank you. You are what makes this job worth it. Go Norse!"

Gerak joined the NKU softball staff prior to the 2023 season and was elevated to head coach before the 2025 campaign. In two seasons as head coach, she compiled a 48-52 overall record, including a 23-17 mark in Horizon League play, with one Horizon League Tournament championship and one NCAA Tournament appearance.

During her tenure as head coach, Gerak coached seven Horizon League All-Academic selections and 10 All-Horizon League honorees. In 2026, Northern Kentucky also recorded its longest winning streak since transitioning to Division I, winning 10 consecutive games, culminating in a 4-3 victory over Robert Morris in the Horizon League Championship game.

A national search for Gerak's replacement will begin immediately.
