SPRINGFIELD, Ill. –
Noelle Peterson and
Shelby Buschur combined for 27 kills Friday night to lead the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team to a sweep against Illinois-Springfield.
Peterson hammered down 15 kills and attacked at a .565 clip as NKU won by scores of 25-18, 25-23, 25-20. Buschur added 12 kills for NKU, which improved to 17-12 overall, 7-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Peterson, a junior outside hitter from Milwaukee, Wis., now has 919 career kills in three seasons with NKU.
Jenna Schreiver dished out 33 assists and collected nine digs for NKU, which is seventh in this week's NCAA Division II Midwest Region poll.
Kylee Tarantino finished with 12 digs to lead the NKU defense, while
Sarah Drennen added 10 digs. The Norse hit .187 for the match but limited Illinois-Springfield to a .094 hitting percentage. NKU also finished with 10 team blocks, with
Katie Sommer recording five block assists.
Illinois-Springfield dropped to 9-18 overall, 1-10 in the GLVC. NKU is now 3-0 all-time against the Prairie Stars.
NKU concludes the road trip Saturday with a match against Quincy. The Norse return home next week to close out the regular season with matches against nationally ranked Missouri-St. Louis on Nov. 5, and Missouri S&T on Nov. 6.
NKU will then head to the GLVC Tournament, which will be held at the site of the No. 1 seed, likely either Lewis or Missouri-St. Louis. The GLVC Tournament will be played Nov. 12-14, with the winner receiving an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
