Norse close out NKU Invitational on Saturday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University's Yasmine Xantos advanced to the Flight D finals to highlight the NKU women's tennis team's effort in the NKU Invitational Tournament, played this weekend at the Joyce Yeager Tennis Complex.
 
Xantos fell to Xavier's Abbie Roebker, 6-0, 6-3, to close out the singles bracket in the event. Other flight champions included Nora Mindiyarova of Lewis in Flight A, Jackie Kawamoto of Dayton in Flight B and Jade Kawamoto of Dayton in Flight C.
 
In doubles play, NKU newcomer Hailey Shanahan teamed with Danielle Donahue to reach the finals of Flight A, falling to Morehead State's Andrea LeBlanc and Hayley Wild in a tiebreak, 7-3.
 
The Norse now await the selection announcement for the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships, to be played Oct. 17-20 at the University of Tennessee.  In the meantime, the Norse will host the second-annual NKU Adult Open public tournament on Oct. 3-5 at the Joyce Yeager Tennis Complex.
