WSOC set for match-up at Detroit

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer team looks to remain undefeated in Horizon League play on Saturday, Oct. 3 when it travels to Detroit for a 1 p.m. kickoff set to air on ESPN3.

LAST TIME OUT: The Norse fell to Robert Morris, 2-1, on Monday after a slow start put NKU behind 1-0 in the 24th minute. The teams traded momentum in the second half with Aubrey Muench netting the equalizer in the 75th minute on an assist from Macy Hamblin. RMU countered with a 79th minute goal as the Norse ran out of time to retaliate.

ABOUT DETROIT: The Titans (4-5-2, 1-1-1 Horizon) sit in fifth place in the Horizon League standings, just one spot behind NKU. Detroit is coming off a 1-1 draw at Oakland on Wednesday after defeating Green Bay, 5-0, and falling to Cleveland State, 1-0, in League action. The Titans are led by Alyssa Lotito with seven points on a pair of goals and three assists. Four different players are tied with five points. Primary goalkeeper Claudia Eustaquio, who has logged 681:05 minutes in goal, has a league-best three shutouts and boasts a .780 save percentage, the fourth-best clip in the League.

NORSE NOTES:

Schocker has not allowed a goal in 168:54 minutes against Horizon League opponents. Schocker shut out UIC in Northern Kentucky's last League match and held Youngstown State scoreless in her 78:54 minutes in goal. The junior goalkeeper owns a League-best goals against average of 0.71 on the season to go with her .850 save percentage, good for second in the League.

NKU is 6-0 when scoring first and 0-3 when opponents score first. Sophomore Jessica Frey has been the first to score in three of NKU's victories as the sophomore has found the back of the net within the first 15 minutes on all three occasions, including twice in the third minute.

Sophomore Morgan Shafer has issued a strong start to Horizon League play. Shafer plays both midfield and defense and has a team-high four points in League action. The Cincinnati, Ohio native has scored in both of NKU's Horizon League matches and boasts a .500 shot percentage in those contests.

If Northern Kentucky was able to be included in the NCAA ranking summary, the Norse would be tied for sixth in assists per game. NKU would be tied with Princeton, averaging 2.67 assists per game. With 24 assists this season, NKU would also be tied with Princeton for 22nd overall in total assists. Hamblin has led the Norse in assists, as she would rank 15th in the NCAA with 0.63 assists per game out of 150 ranked individuals. Hamblin has five assists through her eight games played.

The Norse's 20 goals and 156 total shots have been split evenly between the first and second period. NKU has scored 10 goals in both the first and second period this season, while posting 78 shots per period for its total of 156.

NKU has posted a 3-2 record since its four-game season-opening win streak ended with a loss at Illinois on Sept. 11. The Norse have alternated between wins and losses since falling to the Illini and have allowed six goals in that span after allowing a single goal throughout the first four games.

Saturday's match is one of five remaining matches set to air on ESPN3. NKU's rivalry match at home against Wright State (Oct. 14) will also air on ESPN3 along with matches against Cleveland State (Oct. 17), Oakland (Oct. 21) and Green Bay (Oct. 30).

UP NEXT: The Norse play one more road match before returning home when they travel to take on 2014 Horizon League Tournament champion Valparaiso on Friday, Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. ET.
