FORT WAYNE, Ind. –
Hailey Shanahan picked up her first singles win of the season for the Northern Kentucky University women's tennis team in a 5-2 loss to IPFW on Saturday afternoon.
Shanahan came back from a 7-5 defeat in Set 1 against Carlota Trevino to pick up the win, going 6-4, 6-4 in the final two sets.
Danielle Donahue improved her singles record to 3-4 on the year with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Ella Norgren at the No. 4 singles flight.
Sierra Nellessen came back from a 6-4 loss to Marcy Huck in Set 1 to take a 7-5 tiebreak in the second set of their No. 6 singles match. However, with the team match decided, Huck took the singles tilt in a super tiebreaker, 10-2.
With the loss, NKU fell to 1-4 on the season, while IPFW improved to 6-2.
The Norse will take next weekend off before heading to Chicago for a series of three matches in three days. NKU will take on Detroit Mercy on Friday, Feb. 27, before facing the host Chicago State on Saturday morning and closing out the weekend against Northern Iowa on Sunday.
