HARTFORD, Conn. - The Northern Kentucky University women's tennis team got its weekend started on the right foot with a 7-0 victory over Hartford on Friday afternoon.

The Norse (3-6) swept singles play, with five of the six wins coming in straight sets. In the top-flight match,
Hailey Shanahan bested Katie Long, 6-4, 6-3.
Sydney Power took a closely contested Set 1, 7-5, from Emily Sneddon before closing out the match with a 6-2 win in the final set.

Danielle Donahue came back from a 6-0 loss in Set 2 to post a 6-3 win in the final set against Skylar Schaar and take her team-leading fifth victory of the season.

Nicole Soutar and Sierra Nellesseen also posted straight-set victories in singles play.

In doubles, Soutar and Donahue teamed to best Meredith Heitland and Madeline Makings, 6-1, while Shanahan and
Yasmine Xantos defeated Sneddon and Felicia Demarco, 6-4, to take the doubles point.

NKU continues its weekend in the Big Apple on Saturday with a noontime match against Rider. The Norse will close things out on Sunday against St. Francis (N.Y.).
