HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's tennis team travels to Peoria, Illinois on Friday for a pair of weekend matches against South Dakota and Bradley at the Clubs at River City Tennis Center.
The Norse take on South Dakota Friday in a neutral-site match at 8 p.m. ET, followed by a 2 p.m. match against the Braves on Saturday.
NKU enters the weekend with a 1-2 overall record and 0-1 mark in the Horizon League. The Norse are coming off a 6-1 loss to League foe Wright State. At the No. 1 singles spot, junior
Klara Skopac collected a victory over Wright State's Taylor Culbertson to move to 2-1 in singles action this spring.
The duo of
Sierra Nellessen and
Sydney Power dropped their first doubles match of the season last weekend after opening the year with back-to-back wins against Bowling Green and Louisville.
The squad's first victory of the season came against Bowling Green, where the Norse battled to a 5-2 victory after singles wins from Skopac, Power,
Nicole Soutar and Nellessen in addition to the doubles point.
South Dakota enters the weekend with a 2-2 record and posted a pair of victories last week over North Dakota and Northern Iowa. The Coyotes' No. 5 and No. 6 singles competitors, Elize van Zijst and Maria Pandya, each posted two-straight wins last weekend.
Bradley is 4-2 to start the season and is on a four-match win streak with its most recent victory coming against Butler, 6-1. Bradley junior Ariel Dechter is coming off a strong weekend that earned her Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week. On the season, Dechter is 3-3 in singles and 3-2 in doubles. Meanwhile, Malini Wijesinghe is undefeated at 5-0 in singles action and is 4-1 in doubles.
Following the weekend set, NKU hosts Tennessee State on Saturday, Feb. 20 for the first home match of the season. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m. at Five Seasons Sports Club where the NKU men's tennis team will also be taking on the Tigers.
