Norse and Colonels play long ball in 10-8 @NKUNorseBSB loss

RICHMOND, Ky.  – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team laced three home runs on Tuesday night but fell to in-state rival Eastern Kentucky, 10-8, as 13 of the game's 18 runs came off six different homers.

NKU's three-game win streak comes to a close as the Norse dip to 6-11 overall. EKU improves to 13-9.

At the Plate
  • Freshman Brendan Alas made his first collegiate start and registered the first hits of his collegiate career, with his second knock being a three-run home run. The outfielder went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
  • Jake Richmond, the reigning Horizon League Batter of the Week, continued his stellar play at the plate, batting 3-for-5 with two RBI, two runs scored, a home run and a double. He homered in his third-straight game and extended his hit streak to 12 games.
  • Ty Amann launched a two-run home run and scored three times for the Norse.
  • Mike Moffat went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
On the Mound
  • Three Norse pitchers saw action out of the bullpen on Tuesday after starter Brody Basilone tossed the first 2.2 innings.
  • Seth Rosenberg contributed 1.1 innings of work, followed by Travis Rowland's 3.0 innings in which he tossed a hitless and scoreless fifth and sixth. The only hit Rowland gave up was a two-run home run.
  • Joe Martin closed the game with a shutout inning pitched.
Key Moments
  • EKU's Daniel McFarland handed Eastern Kentucky a 3-0 lead on a three-run homer in the bottom of the second.
  • Another Colonel home run in the third and a four-run, four-hit fourth inning pushed the score to 8-0.
  • Amann's two-run homer put the Norse on the board in the top of the fifth and was followed by a bases-loaded walk, cutting the Eastern Kentucky lead to 8-3.
  • Alas then scored Mike Moffatt and Amann on a three-run homer in the next inning to bring NKU within two of EKU at 8-6.
  • The game's fifth home run, and second off the bat of McFarland, brought the Eastern Kentucky lead to 10-6 in the bottom of the seventh.
  • The sixth and final homer of the game came from Richmond for the 10-8 final score.
  • NKU put the tying run on first base in the top of the ninth, but could not push a run across in the final frame.

  • After launching three home runs across the first 13 games, Northern Kentucky has hit eight homers in the last four games. Jake Richmond (3), Mike Moffatt, Trey Ganns, Chad Roberts, Ty Amann and Brendan Alas have each belted a home run in the last four games.
  • The last time NKU hit three homers in a single game was on May 15, 2016 in a 12-8 win over Youngstown State at home.
  • Richmond is the first player in the Division-I era to hit a home run in three-straight contests. He is 10-for-19 (.526) with eight RBI, six runs scored and three homers in the last four games.
