GREEN BAY, Wis. – Northern Kentucky men's tennis fell in its Horizon League opener to Green Bay, falling in a 4-3 decision for the second straight match. With the setback, NKU drops to 4-4 overall and starts League play at 1-0, while Green Bay advances to 5-7 (2-0 HL).
Match Notables
- NKU claimed the doubles point with wins in the No. 1 and 3 matchups. In No. 3 doubles, Javier Araya and Andrew Niehaus quickly defeated Matej Kostadinov and Ivan Radomirovic, blanking their opponents, 6-0. Mate Virag and Lukas Clemens went extra games against Florian Kraenzler and Charlie Ridout to clinch the point, winning 7-5 over the Phoenix in the No. 1 spot.
- The Phoenix claimed the win with four victories in the singles lineup, all of which were straight-set wins.
- NKU earned two wins in No. 1 and 2 singles, led by Virag in the top singles match. He had a straight-set, 7-6(4), 6-4 win over Kraenzler, while Araya won by retirement over Kostadinov in the No. 2 match.
- The Norse continue Horizon League play this weekend, welcoming Cleveland State and Youngstown State to Highland Heights. First serve against the Vikings is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, followed by a 2:30 p.m. start against the Penguins on Sunday, April 2.
