DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton sped out to a 6-1 advantage through the first inning on Wednesday as it defeated the Northern Kentucky University baseball team, 10-3, at Woerner Field in midweek action.
 
The Norse dip to 8-15 overall while Dayton improves to 9-13.
 
At the Plate On the Mound
  • Pierce Knisley got the start for NKU and absorbed the loss after Dayton came out swinging to take the early advantage.
  • Travis Rowland threw 3.1 innings with his only runs allowed coming on a two-run homer. He allowed three hits, struck out three and walked one.
  • Joe Martin scattered four hits across 2.0 innings and gave up one run.
  • Seth Rosenberg contributed a scoreless and hitless inning of work before Jordan Menfee closed the game.
Key Moments
  • NKU scored a single run in each of the first three innings. Its runs scored on an error following a TJ Alas single, a groundout RBI from Shane Paradis and a run-scoring balk following a Ganns single and Roberts double.
  • However, the Flyers' six-run first inning put the game out of reach early. Dayton scored on a pair of two-run singles, a fielder's choice and bases-loaded walk.
  • A two-run homer from Brandon Smith in the second extended the UD lead to 8-2 as the Flyers went on to plate one run in both the fifth and eighth frames on RBI singles.
