HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's tennis put up a fight against Rhode Island at Yeager Tennis Complex, but ultimately fell to the Rams, 4-3. With the setback, NKU dips to 4-6 while Rhode Island snapped an 11-game losing skid and advanced to 5-11.
Match Notables
- NKU's top doubles team of Klara Skopac and Margita Sunjic posted a dominant 6-1 win over Ariel Haber and Emily Zargham, but the No. 2 and 3 lineups fell as the Rams claimed the doubles point.
- The Norse flopped the lead after three-straight wins in singles.
- Sierra Nellessen started things off with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Nicole Legler in No. 6 singles, and Margita Sunjic wrapped up a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Mihaela Codreanu in the No. 1 spot shortly thereafter.
- Katja Dijanezevic downed Ariel Haber in No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-4.
- The remaining three singles matches all went three sets. Skopac came out with a 6-2 win in the opening set of No. 2 singles against Rachel Smilansky, but the Ram posted a pair of 6-3 sets to take the win.
- In No. 4 singles, Emily Zargham got out to a one-set lead with a 6-4 win over Sydney Power, but the match was pushed to an extra set after Power won the second, 6-2. Zargham went on to win the deciding set, 6-4.
- The clinching singles match saw Danielle Donahue fall to Tiara Higuchi. Higuchi took the first set, 6-4, before Donahue battled for a 7-6(3) win to push the tiebreak set. In the third set, Higuchi got out to an early lead and held on for the 6-1 win.
- NKU continues Horizon League play this weekend, hosting Cleveland State on Saturday, April 1, and Youngstown State on Sunday, April 2. Both days feature the men's team in action as well, with the women starting both days at 11 a.m. ET followed by a 2:30 p.m. men's match.
