DETROIT – Northern Kentucky women's tennis fought a tight match against Horizon League foe Detroit Mercy, but ultimately fell to the Titans, 4-3. With the loss, NKU dips to 6-11 overall and 3-5 in League competition, while Detroit Mercy moves on to 8-10 (4-2 HL).
Match Notables
- The Titans won the opening doubles point with wins on the No. 2 and 3 courts, and extended to a 2-0 lead with a victory in No. 3 singles.
- NKU was able to take the lead, 3-2, with a trio of wins in No. 1, 2 and 6 singles.
- On the No. 1 court, Margita Sunjic won her ninth-consecutive match in straight sets with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Anna Davydova. The freshman is undefeated in Horizon League competition.
- Klara Skopac extended her winning streak to five matches with a win over Marie Maitrot in No. 2 singles. Skopac won the first set, 6-1, but Maitrot pushed a third set with a 6-3 win in the second. The deciding set went to tiebreak, with Skopac coming out on top of a 7-6(6) win.
- Sierra Nellessen also went undefeated on the weekend with a three-set win over Ksenia Providokhina in No. 6 singles. Nellessen won the first set 6-4 before a 6-0 setback in the second, but roared back for a 6-1 win in the tiebreak set.
- The matches in No. 4 and 5 singles went on to decide the dual, with both going three sets. Danielle Donahue dropped a 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 decision to Nynke Van Der Groot, while Katja Dijanezevic fell to Pauline Van Herck, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
- NKU wraps up the regular season on Saturday, April 22, when the Norse host Wright State for Senior Day. The women's match is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. ET from Yeager Tennis Complex.
