ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Northern Kentucky men's tennis bowed out of the Horizon League Championship on Friday afternoon, falling to No. 4-seeded Youngstown State in the first round, 4-0. NKU ends its season with a 7-9 record, while the Penguins move on to the semifinals.
Match Notables
- Youngstown State took the doubles point with wins on courts 1 and 2. In the top flight, Mitch Maroshcer and Thomas Rodrigues downed Adrian Isache and Lukas Clemens, 6-1. The point was clinched with a 6-3 victory from Danylo Veremeichuk and Joao Garretto over Mate Virag and Court Clark.
- Clemens was the first Norse to fall in singles play, dropping the No. 2 singles match to Veremeichuk, 6-2, 6-0.
- YSU went up 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-4 win from Rodrigues over Javier Araya in the No. 3 singles match.
- The Penguins clinched the win on court 6, as Yossi Dahan defeated Adrian Isache, 6-3, 6-2.
- The Norse claimed two set wins in the abandoned singles matches. On the top court, Mate Virag won a tight set over Maroscher, 7-6, and led 3-0 at the time of YSU's clinch. In No. 4 singles, Court Clark dropped the first set to Garretto, but had pushed a third set with a 6-3 victory in the second set.
