KNOXVILLE/CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.– Northern Kentucky's men's and women's tennis concluded competition at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships on Friday, with 10 Norse taking to the court between the two locations.
Men's Highlights
- Andrew Niehaus and Jorge Rodriguez Agudo fell in the second round of the main draw. Nieuhaus dropped a three-set match to ETSU's Frazier Rengifo, 6-7(5), 6-1, 7-5, while Rodriguez Agudo suffered a 6-1, 6-0 setback to 20th-seeded Victor Chaw of Lipscomb.
- In the consolation bracket, Chris Murray had a three-set loss to Chattanooga's Cooper Long, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6. Blaine Carr fell in 6-1 sets to Memphis' Jeremy Long.
Women's Highlights
- Margita Sunjic was the only Norse to pick up a win on the second day of action, taking down 17th-seeded Tatiana Nikolaeva of Austin Peay, 7-6, 6-4. Sunjic then took on No. 30 Christina Rosca of Vanderbilt, who was the top seed in the tournament, and took a 6-4 opening set before falling in the ensuing sets, 6-4, 6-1.
- Maria Koo went three sets against UT-Martin's Asel Jumamuklhambetova in the main consolation bracket but fell, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0(5).
- Elizabeth Rozin also had a three-set setback, falling just short against IUPUI's Mariella Pessina in the B flight, 7-6(6), 6-7(3), 6-4.
- Katja Dijanezevic had a tight first set against Memphis' Josephine Cao in the B flight, 7-6(7), before dropping the second, 6-3.
