@NKUNorseWSOC hosts Oakland on Wednesday in Horizon League action

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team hosts Oakland on Wednesday evening for a Horizon League contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at NKU Soccer Stadium, and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

SERIES HISTORY
Oakland leads the series 3-2-1. However, the Norse earned a 3-0 victory in the last meeting on Oct. 18, 2017.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Norse fell in overtime to Cleveland State on Saturday evening by a final score of 2-1. Shawna Zaken scored in the 64th minute to give NKU a 1-0 lead, but the Vikings recorded goals in the 79th and 96th minutes to get the victory.
 
TAKING A LOOK AT THE STATS
The Norse are 8-4-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the Horizon League. NKU also sports a 6-0 record at home. NKU is averaging 1.46 goals per match and gives up an average of 0.92 goals per contest. Shawna Zaken has five goals and four assists for 14 points. She is tied for second in the Horizon League in goals scored. Emily Soltes and Samantha Duwel each have four goals and five assists on the season for 13 points. Soltes and Duwel are tied for sixth in the Horizon League in total assists. HORIZON LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lohmann was named the Nike® Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, Aug. 27 for her play from Aug. 20-26. She recorded a shutout for the Norse in the 1-0 win over Xavier on Thursday evening. Lohmann faced 12 shots on the night and made five saves in the contest. She also had another good showing in a 1-0 overtime loss to Cincinnati on Sunday evening. Lohmann faced 18 shots and made six saves in that contest.
 
THIS YEAR'S SQUAD
The Norse return 17 players from last year's team and welcome six newcomers to the squad. Lily Menssen, Ashleigh Cronin, Morgan Jewell, Ella Holland, Madelyn Koewler and Chloe Mills are in their first seasons at NKU.
 
HEAD COACH BOB SHEEHAN
Bob Sheehan is in his 22nd season at the helm of the NKU women's soccer team. He sports a 314-104-29 (.735) all-time record. Sheehan won his 300th career match last season against Appalachian State on Aug. 29, 2017. His teams are 22-6-5 in Horizon League play and have a 4-1-1 record in the Horizon League Tournament.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Oakland is 1-10-3 on the year and 1-2-3 in the Horizon League. The Golden Grizzlies are in sixth place in the Horizon League standings. After dropping the first nine games of the season, Oakland is 1-1-3 in its last five matches. As a team, the Golden Grizzlies are averaging 0.29 goals per match and giving up an average of 1.71 goals per contest. Jaimie Leas has played all 14 matches in goal for Oakland. She has 45 saves for a 0.692 save percentage and a 1.49 goals against average.
