DAYTON, Ohio – Northern Kentucky women's tennis dropped its Horizon League season opener on Saturday evening, falling to Wright State by a 5-2 count. The Norse dip to 1-5 with the setback while the Raiders advance to 10-9.
Match Notables
- The Raiders took the lead with a doubles point victory, claiming wins in the No. 1 and 2 matchups.
- NKU's top three singles matches were the highlight of the evening, with Margita Sunjic and Maria Koo winning in the top and second flight, respectively, while Sydney Power went to three sets in the No. 3 match.
- Sunjic avenged a loss from last season against Karoline Haller, who was the only Horizon League player who was able to grab a win from the 2017 Horizon League Player and Freshman of the Year. Haller took the lead in the first set, 6-2, before Sunjic stormed back with a 7-5 second set and sealed her victory in the third, 6-4.
- Koo took down Haley Morgan in the No. 2 singles match in 6-3 sets.
- Power claimed the opening set against Luisa Pelayo in the No. 3 singles match, but her opponent answered back with 6-2, 6-4 victories.
NKU will hit the road for a midweek match against former Horizon League foe Valparaiso on Friday, March 30 at 2 p.m. CT/3 p.m. ET. The Norse then play against UIC and IUPUI on Saturday and Sunday.
