HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University men's basketball will host a multi-team event (MTE) Nov. 16-18 at BB&T Arena in Highland Heights, Kentucky. The four-team MTE also features UNC Asheville, Coastal Carolina and Manhattan.
Matchups on Friday, Nov. 16, include Manhattan versus Coastal Carolina and Northern Kentucky against UNC Asheville. CCU plays UNC Asheville and NKU takes on Manhattan in Nov. 17's contests. The final day of action pits Manhattan versus UNC Asheville and the Norse against Coastal Carolina.
The field features mid-major programs that are no strangers to recent success. All four programs have played in the NCAA Tournament within the last four seasons. NKU was the most recent, joining the tourney field in 2017, while UNC Asheville participated in 2016 and Coastal Carolina and Manhattan were entrants in 2015. Both the Norse and UNC Asheville Bulldogs competed in the 2018 NIT after winning their respective league regular-season titles. UNC Asheville is riding a streak of three-straight 20-win seasons, while CCU has reached the 20-win plateau in three of the last four years.
This marks the third-straight season Northern Kentucky has played in an MTE, going 2-1 in both the Tarkett Sports Classic, which was hosted by Miami (Ohio) during the 2016-17 campaign, and the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase last season. NKU reached the title game in Nassau, competing in the same field as Coastal Carolina. However, the two teams did not meet up against one another and all three programs are first-time opponents for the Norse.
Northern Kentucky also hosts UMBC on Nov. 30, Miami (Ohio) on Dec. 16 and Northern Illinois (Dec. 20) as part of its home nonconference schedule.
The Norse boast back-to-back 20-win seasons thanks to a 24-11 mark in 2016-17 and 22-10 record a year ago.
