HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University men's basketball team welcomes regional foe Miami (Ohio) to BB&T Arena on Sunday, Dec. 16. This is the third home game of the nonconference schedule announced by the Norse, joining the Nov. 30 matchup with UMBC and Dec. 20 contest against Northern Illinois, an adversary of Miami in the MAC.
Miami went 16-18 last season under first-year head coach Jack Owens. The 16 wins were the most for the RedHawks since 2011. The team also participated in the College Basketball Invitational. MAC Freshman of the Year and Honorable Mention All-MAC honoree Nike Sibande averaged 15.1 points per game to pace Miami.
NKU and Miami last met up on the hardwood during the 2016-17 campaign as part of the Tarkett Sports Classic hosted by the RedHawks.
Drew McDonald posted 23 points and nine rebounds to help the Norse to a 79-70 victory at Millett Hall. McDonald and
Lavone Holland II, who tallied 25 points in the game, were named to the all-tournament team.
In addition to the home game against Miami, Northern Kentucky will play a road matchup against Morehead State on Tuesday, Nov. 27, joining previously announced road matchups with Northern Illinois (Nov. 9) and Eastern Kentucky (Dec. 8).
Under the guidance of head coach
John Brannen, Northern Kentucky has gone 55-42 over the last three years, but an even more impressive 46-21 across the last two seasons that includes both a Horizon League regular-season (2018) and tournament championship (2017). And, since the start of the 2016-17 campaign, NKU has posted a 24-4 mark in front of its home crowd at BB&T Arena.
