@NKUNorseWSOC heads to Cincinnati on Sunday for the Riverboat Rivalry

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team makes the short trip across the river on Sunday to face Cincinnati in the Riverboat Rivalry. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Gettler Stadium, and a live stream of the match will be available.

LAST TIME OUT
The Norse came away with an exciting 1-0 win against Xavier on Thursday evening at NKU Soccer Stadium. Payton Naylor scored the game-winning goal with 15 seconds left in the match to help NKU get the victory. Emily Lohmann and the Norse defense earned their second shutout of the season in the win. Lohmann made five saves, including a huge stop in the 57th minute to keep the Musketeers off of the scoreboard.
 
TAKING A LOOK AT THE STATS
NKU is 2-1 on the year with both wins coming at NKU Soccer Stadium. The Norse have had five different players score goals this season, and four different players have recorded an assist. NKU is averaging 1.67 goals per match and holding opponents to 0.67 goals per match. Lohmann has recorded two shutouts this year, which ranks first in the Horizon League and fifth nationally entering the weekend.
 
THIS YEAR'S SQUAD
The Norse return 17 players from last year's team and welcome six newcomers to the squad. Lily Menssen, Ashleigh Cronin, Morgan Jewell, Ella Holland, Madelyn Koewler and Chloe Mills are in their first seasons at NKU.
 
 
HEAD COACH BOB SHEEHAN
Bob Sheehan is in his 22nd season at the helm of the NKU women's soccer team. He sports a 308-101-28 (.737) all-time record. Sheehan won his 300th career match last season against Appalachian State on Aug. 29, 2017. His teams are 18-5-4 in Horizon League play and have a 4-1-1 record in the Horizon League Tournament.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
UC enters the contest at 2-1 overall. The Bearcats defeated Wright State on Friday evening by a final score of 2-0. UC won its season opener against Eastern Kentucky 2-1, and fell to No. 8 Virginia 3-0 on Aug. 19.  The Bearcats have had four different players score this season. Brandi Thomsen leads the team with three points. She has a goal and an assist on the year.
