@NKUNorseWSOC opens up Horizon League play at Green Bay on Saturday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team is set to travel to Green Bay on Saturday to open up Horizon League play. The Phoenix finished seventh in last year's league regular season standings and are currently 2-6 to start the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

SERIES HISTORY
Northern Kentucky leads the all-time series 3-0-0. In the last meeting, the Norse defeated the Phoenix 3-1 on Oct. 14, 2017.
 
LAST TIME OUT
NKU was defeated by No. 22 Butler in Indianapolis on Sunday, Sept. 9 by a final score of 2-0. The Bulldogs scored in the 33rd and 83rd minutes of the match to defeat the Norse.
 
TAKING A LOOK AT THE STATS
NKU is 4-3 on the season. With a perfect 3-0 record at home, all three losses have occurred on the road to quality opponents in Murray State, Cincinnati and No. 22 Butler. The Norse are averaging 1.43 goals per match, and give up an average of one goal per contest. Soltes, Zaken and Mills each have two goals to lead the team. Samantha Duwel has contributed one goal and four assists for six points. Emily Lohmann has started all seven matches in the net for NKU. She has made 32 saves for a 0.821 save percentage. Lohmann also has a 0.99 goals against average and is tied for 34th in the nation in shutouts with three.
 
HORIZON LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lohmann was named the Nike® Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, Aug. 27 for her play from Aug. 20-26. She recorded a shutout for the Norse in the 1-0 win over Xavier on Thursday evening. Lohmann faced 12 shots on the night and made five saves in the contest. She also had another good showing in a 1-0 overtime loss to Cincinnati on Sunday evening. Lohmann faced 18 shots and made six saves in that contest.
 
THIS YEAR'S SQUAD
The Norse return 17 players from last year's team and welcome six newcomers to the squad. Lily Menssen, Ashleigh Cronin, Morgan Jewell, Ella Holland, Madelyn Koewler and Chloe Mills are in their first seasons at NKU.
 
HEAD COACH BOB SHEEHAN
Bob Sheehan is in his 22nd season at the helm of the NKU women's soccer team. He sports a 310-103-28 (.735) all-time record. Sheehan won his 300th career match last season against Appalachian State on Aug. 29, 2017. His teams are 18-5-4 in Horizon League play and have a 4-1-1 record in the Horizon League Tournament.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Phoenix enter the contest at 2-6 overall. Green Bay averages one goal per match, and gives up 2.38 goals per contest. McKayla Kertscher leads the team with three goals and one assist. Brianna Messner has recorded two goals and one assist. Courtney Klatt has started five games at goalie for the Phoenix and sports a 0.784 save percentage. Taylor Reichow has started three games in the net and has a 0.625 save percentage.
