MASON, Ohio – Northern Kentucky's men's and women's tennis teams co-hosted the Greater Cincinnati Invitational with Dayton over the weekend, lifting the lid on the 2018 fall campaign. Every Norse picked up at least one win between singles and doubles action.
 
Women's Tournament

• Margita Sunjic, Maria Koo and Taylor Culbertson registered wins in the opening rounds of singles action. In the top flight, Sunjic downed Dayton's Mattea Kilstofe, 6-0, 6-1, before falling to Lipscomb's Vika Dzyuba, 6-4, 6-4 in the championship match. Koo took down Xavier's Lauren Fitz Randolph in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-4, in the first round and also dropped out of the main draw at the hands of a Bison when Kate Popova took a 6-4, 6-0 win. Koo went on to win the third-place match, 7-6, 2-6, 1-0(7) over Wofford's Jenna Vroman. Culbertson defeated Siena's Dilara Spicer, 6-1, 7-5, in the first round of the No. 4 singles bracket. She fell to Wofford's Kay Kluska, 6-4, 6-2 in the second round.
• Freshman Elizabeth Rozin picked up a win in the backdraw of the No. 3 singles bracket. She fell to Lipscomb's Maddie Brooks, 6-1, 6-1, in the first round before defeating Dayton's Emily Zargham, 7-5, 6-2.
• Hannah Watton also registered a win in the backdraw of the No. 6 singles bracket, first falling to Wofford's Brittney Wilbur in matching 6-2 sets before taking down Lipscomb's Eleanor Chapman, 6-2, 6-4.
• NKU claimed a pair of wins in doubles action. Koo and Rozin teamed up for a 6-3 win over Siena's Dilara Spicer and Anessa Leyva, while Watton and Hannah Clark also earned a 6-3 win against a Siena pairing of Nanea Perkins and Sarah Marro.

 
Men's Tournament

• Three Norse also won in the first rounds of singles action on the men's side. Andrew Niehaus defeated Siena's Tomas DelOlmo in the No. 1 singles bracket, blanking his opponent in both sets. Niehaus later fell to Dayton's Jordan Benjamin in 6-2 sets and finished fourth after dropping a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(9) match to Notre Dame's Paul Gota. Chris Murray won in 6-3, 6-2 sets against Siena's Mohammed Sawani in No. 3 singles before dropping a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Dayton's Langford Hills. Blaine Carr rounded out NKU's first-round winners with a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Siena's Geovanny Mendoza in the No. 4 flight. He went on to drop a 6-3, 7-5 match to Dayton's Will Harper.
• Jorge Rodriguez Agudo picked up a win in the backdraw of the No. 3 singles bracket, defeating Xavier's Connor LaFavre, 6-0, 6-2. Anthony Bosch also got a win over Siena's Cameron Kirkwood in the No. 5 singles backdraw, and Nick Elleman won 6-3, 6-2 over Siena's Griffen Barnett in the backdraw of the No. 6 singles bracket.
• NKU had three wins in doubles, with each pairing picking up a victory. Murray and Anthony Bosch had a hard-fought 7-6 win over Siena's Matt Bellino and Muhammad Sawari. Rodriguez Agudo and Carr won a 6-3 decision over Xavier's Matt Graff and Connor LaFavre, while Elleman and Felipe Hidalgo picked up a 6-2 win against Siena's Alexandros Giannaktisidis and Barnett.
