@NKUNorseWSOC heads to Wright State on Wednesday for a Horizon League showdown

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team travels to Wright State on Wednesday in a battle of unbeaten teams in the Horizon League. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

SERIES HISTORY
The Norse are 4-0 all-time against Wright State. NKU defeated the Raiders last season 1-0 on Sept. 27, 2017.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Norse earned a 2-0 shutout victory over Youngstown State on Saturday. Emily Soltes crossed the ball into the box to Samantha Duwel in the 49th minute, and she headed it into the back of the net to put NKU ahead 1-0. Soltes scored a goal of her own in the 87th minute. A ball played up the field by Chloe Mills and Shawna Zaken found Soltes, and she slipped her shot past the YSU goalkeeper to give the Norse a 2-0 lead. Senior goalkeeper Emily Lohmann recorded her fourth shutout of the season in the net, and the NKU defense allowed just three shots in the match.
 
TAKING A LOOK AT THE STATS
The Norse are 6-3 on the season with a perfect 2-0 record in Horizon League play. NKU has won its past two matches and four of its last five. The Norse sport a 4-0 record at home and have a 2-3 record on the road. All three losses have come to quality opponents, Murray State, Cincinnati, and then-No. 22 Butler. NKU is averaging 1.56 goals per match and allows 0.89 goals per contest. Emily Soltes leads the team and is tied for first in the Horizon League with four goals. She has 10 points on the season, which is the top mark for NKU and ranks third in the Horizon League. Samantha Duwel has two goals and five assists on the year for nine points. Her five assists are tied for third in the Horizon League. Emily Lohmann has four shutouts on the season, which is first in the Horizon League and tied for 45th nationally.
 
NCAA RPI
The Norse were ranked No. 92 in this week's NCAA RPI. NKU had the highest ranking out of all the Horizon League teams.
 
HORIZON LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lohmann was named the Nike® Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, Aug. 27 for her play from Aug. 20-26. She recorded a shutout for the Norse in the 1-0 win over Xavier on Thursday evening. Lohmann faced 12 shots on the night and made five saves in the contest. She also had another good showing in a 1-0 overtime loss to Cincinnati on Sunday evening. Lohmann faced 18 shots and made six saves in that contest.
 
THIS YEAR'S SQUAD
The Norse return 17 players from last year's team and welcome six newcomers to the squad. Lily Menssen, Ashleigh Cronin, Morgan Jewell, Ella Holland, Madelyn Koewler and Chloe Mills are in their first seasons at NKU.
 
HEAD COACH BOB SHEEHAN
Bob Sheehan is in his 22nd season at the helm of the NKU women's soccer team. He sports a 312-103-28 (.736) all-time record. Sheehan won his 300th career match last season against Appalachian State on Aug. 29, 2017. His teams are 20-5-4 in Horizon League play and have a 4-1-1 record in the Horizon League Tournament.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Wright State is one of three unbeaten teams in the Horizon League, along with NKU and Milwaukee. The Raiders were picked to finish in third place in the Horizon League preseason poll. Wright State started the season 0-5-1, but the Raiders are currently on a three-match winning streak. Most recently, Wright State has defeated Oakland and Green Bay in league play. The Raiders topped the Golden Grizzlies 1-0 on Sept. 14 and defeated the Phoenix 2-1 in overtime on Sept. 22. The team is averaging 0.78 goals per match and giving up an average of 2.11 goals per contest. Aaliyah Patten leads the team with two goals and two assists. In the net, Maddie Jewell has started all nine contests. She has made 35 saves for a 0.648 save percentage and a 2.02 goals against average.
