@NKUNorseWSOC hosts defending ASUN regular-season champion Lipscomb on Thursday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team is set to host Lipscomb on Thursday. Lipscomb was the 2017 Atlantic Sun regular-season co-champion. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at NKU Soccer Stadium, and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

SERIES HISTORY
NKU leads the all-time series 2-0-1. The Norse defeated the Bisons 5-2 on Oct. 20, 2012. The following season, NKU tied Lipscomb 0-0 on Oct. 19, 2013. The two teams last met on Oct. 24, 2014. The Norse came away with a 2-0 win.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Norse earned a well-deserved victory on the road at Ohio on Friday, Aug. 31. Chloe Mills scored in the 23rd minute to give NKU a 1-0 lead. Emily Soltes followed with a goal of her own in the 50th minute to put the Norse ahead 2-0. Ohio tied the score at 2-2 with goals in the 62nd and 79th minutes. However, Kailey Ivins scored the game-winning goal for NKU at 88:34 to lift the Norse to a 3-2 victory.
 
HORIZON LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lohmann was named the Nike® Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, Aug. 27. She recorded a shutout for the Norse in the 1-0 win over Xavier on Thursday evening. Lohmann faced 12 shots on the night and made five saves in the contest. She also had another good showing in a 1-0 overtime loss to Cincinnati on Sunday evening. Lohmann faced 18 shots and made six saves. She has two shutouts on the year with a 0.73 goals against average. Lohmann also has a 0.850 save percentage.
 
TAKING A LOOK AT THE STATS
NKU is 3-2 on the season. Both losses occurred on the road and in overtime to quality opponents, Murray State and Cincinnati. The Norse are averaging 1.60 goals per match, and give up an average of 1.00 goals per contest. Soltes and Mills each have two goals to lead the team. Payton Naylor and Samantha Duwel have each contributed one goal and two assists for four points. Emily Lohmann has started all five matches in the net for NKU. She has made 26 saves for a 0.839 save percentage. She also has a 0.98 goals against average.
 
THIS YEAR'S SQUAD
The Norse return 17 players from last year's team and welcome six newcomers to the squad. Lily Menssen, Ashleigh Cronin, Morgan Jewell, Ella Holland, Madelyn Koewler and Chloe Mills are in their first seasons at NKU.
 
HEAD COACH BOB SHEEHAN
Bob Sheehan is in his 22nd season at the helm of the NKU women's soccer team. He sports a 309-102-28 (.736) all-time record. Sheehan won his 300th career match last season against Appalachian State on Aug. 29, 2017. His teams are 18-5-4 in Horizon League play and have a 4-1-1 record in the Horizon League Tournament.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Bisons enter the contest at 3-1-2 overall. Lipscomb's only loss of the season came to Miami (FL) at the Music City Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt. Lipscomb averages 2.00 goals per match, and only gives up 0.67 goals per contest. Riley Henry leads the team with four goals scored, and Olivia Doak has recorded three goals and two assists. Kate Mason has started all six matches in the net for Lipscomb. She has made 25 saves for a 0.862 save percentage and sports a 0.62 goals against average.
