HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Two-time Horizon League First Team performer and 2018 Lou Henson All-American
Drew McDonald is one of 50 players across the nation named to the Lou Henson Award Mid-Season Watch List.
McDonald, a senior forward and native of Cold Spring, Kentucky, is averaging 18.6 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. His eight double-doubles are the 14th-most in the country and he is one of just 16 players to record a triple-double this season.
Earlier this season, McDonald was selected as the 2017-18 Horizon League Preseason Player of the Year, a Naismith Hall of Fame Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Candidate, and has already earned four Nike Horizon League Player of the Week honors.
McDonald continues his assault on Northern Kentucky's record books as well. Against Eastern Kentucky, McDonald surpassed LaRon Moore to become NKU's career record holder for rebounds. He currently has 932. McDonald has also moved to sixth all-time in scoring at Northern Kentucky and is rapidly rising in the Horizon League's scoring records as well with 1,748 points, ranking 35th all-time in the league.
The 2019 Lou Henson Award will be presented at the College Insider awards event in April at the site of the men's Division I national championship in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The award is presented annually to the nation's top mid-major player in college basketball.
Lou Henson coached for 41 years and accumulated 779 Division I wins, which ranked sixth all-time when he left the game in 2005. Henson is also one of only 12 coaches to take two schools to the Final Four.
Northern Kentucky hosts Horizon League rival Wright State in a nationally-televised game on ESPN2 Friday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.
