HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky's women's tennis will welcome former Atlantic Sun opponent Lipscomb in the 2019 home opener for the Norse on Saturday, Feb. 2. First serve against the Lady Bisons is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET inside Five Seasons Sports Club in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
Northern Kentucky sits at 1-2 on the young season after playing three matches in two days in Louisville, Kentucky. The Norse opened up the year with a 4-2 win over Bellarmine before falling to Louisville, 7-0. NKU then fell in a tight match to Ball State the following day, 4-3.
Margita Sunjic and
Elizabeth Rozin went 2-1 on the weekend in the No. 1 and 4 spots in the singles lineup, respectively. The doubles pairing of
Maria Koo and
Taylor Culbertson also posted a 2-1 record in the top flight with wins against Bellarmine and Ball State's top duos.
Lipscomb currently sits at 1-1, falling to Middle Tennessee, 5-2, before a 4-3 victory over UAB on its home court. The Lady Bisons have shown different lineups in the two matches, with Kateryna Popova and Vika Dzyuba flipping between the No. 1 and 2 spots. Dzyuba owns a 2-0 record on the season, claiming a win in the top flight versus UAB as well as a No. 2 singles win against Middle Tennessee. Denise Buberl joins Dzyuba as the only other undefeated player on the team as she picked up a win in No. 4 singles against MTSU before a No. 3 singles win versus UAB.
The last time the two programs met was on April 17, 2015. The Lady Bisons claimed a 4-0 win over the Norse in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Championship.
