@NKUNorseWSOC allows goal to Butler late, falls, 2-1

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer lost their second straight game, 2-1, after Butler netted a late goal on Thursday night at NKU Soccer Stadium.

"Tari and Rob have built an outstanding program at Butler," said head coach Bob Sheehan. "I have no doubt that they will compete for a BIG EAST championship again this year. We challenge our group with this level of competition to prepare for the Horizon League.

"Our players committed to the game plan and demonstrated substantial improvement from our previous match. We defended well all over the field and scored an outstanding goal. We had the lead and we now need to find a way to win matches against this level of competition."

NKU SCORING SUMMARY
  • NKU got on the scoreboard with a header from Chloe Mills in the 47th minute. The assist came from Hannah Fischer after taking a free kick near midfield.

  • Mimi Stines faced 22 shots, made seven saves and allowed both of Butler's goals.

MATCH SUMMARY
  • NKU began the night on the offensive, taking three of their six total shots in the game within the first 15 minutes.
  • Butler's defense eventually fought off the early storm as the Bulldogs' offense settled in and took a barrage of shots, sending in ten by the half's end.
  • After a scoreless first half, both teams made several substitutions to find an edge. Butler found two corner kick opportunities and a shot on goal in the opening minutes.
  • With the ball about 10 yards on the Norse offensive side of midfield, Fischer played a ball into the box towards the far post. Mills snuck in behind the Butler defense and used her 6-1 frame to elevate above the Bulldogs and redirect a sharp header into the back of the net.
  • Following Mills' goal, Butler's Macy Miller knotted the game up at one goal apiece with assists from Morgan Kloosterman and Gretchen Skoglund.
  • Miller was also a part of the Bulldogs' game-winning goal in the 84th minute, finding Aliya Diagne.
