Huge conference test next up for @NKUNorseWSOC

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer team will run a Horizon League gauntlet this week, first hosting Oakland inside NKU Soccer Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. The Norse will then hit the road to face Milwaukee on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. (ET).

• NKU is now 8-4-2 this season and sits in third place in the Horizon League with 18 points. 
• Prior to Sunday, NKU had been unbeaten in its last nine matches with a 7-0-2 record. During this run opponents had scored just six goals as the Norse posted five total shutouts.
• NKU will first face Oakland this week, who sits in second place in the conference with 19 total points. This match is schedule for Thursday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.
• Match number two of the week sees the Norse hit the road to take on Milwaukee, who leads the Horizon League currently, on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. 
• The all-time series between NKU and Oakland is currently tied up at 4-4-2 overall. 
• NKU is currently 1-4-2 against Milwaukee all-time, with the last meeting between these two programs coming last season (4/17/21) in the Horizon League championship. The Panthers defeated the Norse 4-3 overall in penalty kicks as well. 
• NKU's nonconference schedule was an intense grind. All but one of its nonconference opponents have a .500 record or better and are a combined 44-32-17 (.579) through Oct. 12.
• NKU was picked to finish second in the Horizon League Preseason Poll.
• The Norse won the 2020 Horizon League regular season at 7-0-1 and went 8-1-2 overall.
• NKU reached the #HLWSOC Tournament championship match, tying Milwaukee 0-0 through 110 minutes of action before succumbing in penalty kicks.
• Six different Norse players scored against Purdue Fort Wayne in the 6-2 home victory. NKU has outscored opponents 15-5 during its seven-game winning streak as well. 
• M Sofia Wilmes has scored one goal in the past three out of four matches along with recording two assists during this stint. Two of Wilmes' goals have been game winners also. 
• F Lindsey Meyer scored her third goal of the year versus Robert Morris, increasing her season total up to three. 
• M Emma McSwigan scored her first collegiate goal against Robert Morris, in what proved to be the game winner as the Norse picked up the road win at 3-2. 
• D Lydia Self has been named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week twice this season. Self earned her first honor Sept. 13 and the second 20.
• GK Mimi Stines the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 27 after recording back-to-back shutouts against IUPUI and Cleveland State.
• D Madelyn Koewler leads the team in total assists this year with three. Koewler recorded all her assists in back-to-back matches as well.
• Stines is the reigning #HLWSOC Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Year after finishing third nationally in goals against (.264) and save percent (.929), plus 14th in shutouts (7).
• Stines earned recognition as a United Soccer Coaches All-Region honoree and, the standout on both the field and in the classroom, also collected United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America and Horizon League All-Academic accolades.
