OXFORD, Ohio - The Northern Kentucky University men's and women's track and field programs kicked off the 2022 outdoor season close to home as the Norse traveled north to Miami University (OH) where the Blizzard Buster Invitational took place Friday afternoon at the George Rider Track.
"We had a good opener all around and the weather was definitely a plus, opening up after 3 weeks of lighter practices and a spring break, it was good to get in the competitive mode again," said head coach
Steve Kruse. "Shipley's two first place individual finishes against some good regional competition certainly set the tone for the day. Her supporting cast of sprinters (
Andrea Armstrong,
Emily Phillips &
Jailyn Ross) not only did well individually but as a team they won the 4x100m relay."
"
Megan Sullivan finished second in the 400m hurdles however breaking her own school record in doing so," Kruse continued. "She (Sullivan) appears much stronger this year an that will make a big difference in the hurdle events.
Julia Pohl did a great job winning the high jump in NKU record fashion, breaking an NKU record that has stood since 2016."
"The men had no individual winners and nearly everyone doubled in the very tightly scheduled meet. We will be stronger in the future for our work ethic displayed today, many of our men student-athletes ran substantial personal bests today."
