CINCINNATI - The Northern Kentucky University men's and women's track and field programs stayed close to home this past Saturday, as the Norse made the trip across the river to the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational, hosted by the University of Cincinnati.
"Overall it was a somewhat cool April day for the sprint crew however the cooler temps helped on the distance side," said head coach
Steve Kruse. "Our team did a good job of staying in the competition in all the events that we competed in. We did a very good job of supporting our team mates and had a number of alums and fans come out to cheer us on."
"It's always good to run at Gettler Stadium and it takes on kind of a home meet for us. Very proud of those breaking NKU records today as we head into the middle part of our season at this point. We are a few weeks from beginning our taper for post season competition so it is very rewarding for Coach and athlete alike to hit these kind of marks at this time of the year."
WOMEN'S RESULTS
- Megan Cole had an incredible day for the NKU distance squad, finishing sixth overall in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:17.12. Cole's time broke the Northern Kentucky record in the event as well.
- The 4x100-meter relay team of Lynsey Shipley, Andrea Armstrong, Emily Phillips and Jailyn Ross once again looked as impressive as ever, placing second overall in the event and in the process broke their own NKU record at 46.66.
- Both Shipley and Armstrong posted solid days in the 400-meter dash, with Shipley finishing third overall with a time of 56.13 and Armstrong in seventh at 57.29.
- Megan Sullivan continued her successful outdoor season with a fourth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a time of 1:02.65.
- Erika Nageleisen went on to finish 11th overall in the 800-meter run with an overall time of 2:17.21 on the day.
MEN'S RESULTS
- Jackson Coates turned in a phenomenal day for the Norse in the 400-meter dash as he finished fourth overall with a time of 50.27. Coates' time was recording setting for Northern Kentucky as well.
- Liam Ehrman additionally saw a top ten finish in the 400m dash as he placed 10th overall with a time of 51.45.
- The 4x400-meter relay squad of Cody Chism, Jacob Weis, Liam Ehrman and Jackson Coates went on to place seventh overall in the event, totaling a time of 3:29.32.

- Northern Kentucky track and field is back at it this coming weekend, April 8-9 as the Norse travel south to Cleveland, Tennessee to compete in the Flames Invitational hosted by Lee University.
