HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University Athletics and the Go Norse Fund received a significant commitment to support the on-campus needs of NKU men's and women's golf programs. The $125,000 anonymous gift provided support to purchase TrackMan 4 indoor and outdoor simulation units and establish the first on-campus practice space in each program's existence.
Since the inception of both NKU golf programs, the athletics department has worked with golf courses in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati to provide the necessary training needs for the student-athletes. Travel times and conditions to these facilities, especially during the winter, have been a cause of concern for our student-athletes at times due to weather conditions and academic schedules.
"The addition of an on-campus practice facility for our golf teams aligns with our Core Values of Commitment and Belonging. Our golf student-athletes currently must drive to an off-campus facility. This is not only demanding on their time, but also a financial burden on them. Having an on-campus facility will provide the student-athletes with more opportunities to practice with their coaches and teammates. It will also allow the golf student-athletes to connect more with other student-athletes, coaches and staff, as they will spend more time on-campus."
- Dan McIver, Deputy Athletics Director
NKU Athletics announced a cumulative 2022 spring semester GPA of 3.38. Academics has proven to be a point of pride for the Norse student-athletes on both the men's and women's teams. NKU Women's Golf recently recorded a team GPA of 3.5, while the men's program record over a 3.0.
Now, the anonymous gift is making an immediate impact by providing seasonal dedicated golf simulation training space in Regents Hall for golf student-athletes to train throughout the winter on campus.
"This is yet another example of philanthropy impacting the holistic Norse student-athlete experience. Not only does this gift solve an immediate need for our teams, but it has also opened the door for a larger, permanent solution that elevates our programs."
- Derek Petruskevich, Assistant Athletics Director, Development
Outside of practice times for each program, the Go Norse Fund and NKU Foundation intend to utilize the space to host NKU Golf alumni and other university constituents. The facility will serve as yet another area to invite Norse supporters on campus and engage with the university.
