INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky women's tennis and baseball were named NKU's recipients of the Horizon League's Raise Your Sights award, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. The honor is given annually to the best sports teams academically and is based on the combined grade point average from the current academic year.
Norse women's tennis finished the spring semester with an incredible 3.75 grade point average, a mark better than any other team in NKU's athletic department. Women's tennis as a sport in the Horizon League had four teams receive the nod across membership schools, making it one of the more represented sports to earn the award. This is the third Raise Your Sights award for Norse women's tennis. Ananya Kothakota was selected to the 2021-22 Horizon League Women's Tennis All-Academic Honorable Mention Team and Elizabeth Rozin was named the Bachelor of Science Business Information Systems Outstanding Senior during NKU's yearly academic awards and commencement as well.
Baseball joins women's tennis with the Raise Your Sights honor after posting a 3.35 GPA. Northern Kentucky was the lone Horizon League school to have its baseball program earn a 2021-22 Raise Your Sights award. The Norse saw both Brennan Gick and Michael Bohlen selected to the 2022 Horizon League Baseball All-Academic Team and Proctor Mercer was named the Outstanding Student in the Computer Science Program for Data Science during NKU's yearly academic awards and commencement as well.
The awards come after a remarkable academic year for all Norse student-athletes. Every athletics program housed under the NKU umbrella posted at least a 3.38 team-GPA at the end of the semester and four had a mark of 3.50 or better. Individually, 26 NKU student-athletes put together a perfect 4.0 GPA and were named to the President's Honors List. An additional 69 student-athletes scored between a 3.6 and a 3.99 GPA to receive a Dean's List nod. Additionally this marked 22-straight semesters NKU Athletics posted an overall GPA of at least 3.0, 16-straight semesters of a GPA of at least 3.2 and 10-straight semesters of compiling a GPA of at least 3.37 as a whole.
