HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's soccer standout Lydia Self was named a 2023 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I All-North Region honoree as the organization announced its yearly award winners.
 
The trophy case for the Noblesville, Indiana native has got quite full this season. To go with the Second Team All-Region honors, Self was also named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year to go with being an All-League First Team and All-Academic Team selection.
 
Self was a mainstay on NKU's backline, one of the best defenses not only in the conference, but in the entire nation. She was part of a Norse defensive unit that ranked 36th in all of NCAA DI soccer in shutout percentage (.500) and 37th in goals against average (.742). NKU also led the Horizon in opponent scoring average and save percentage (.844).
 
The junior defender started all 19 games for the Norse this season. She recorded two goals on the year, a mark that was ranked in a tie for fourth on the team, to go with her standout play on the backend.
 
Northern Kentucky advanced all the way to the Horizon League Championship in 2023, the program's third title match since joining the conference. NKU posted an 8-4-8 record overall and ended the season on a 6-0-1 run to advance to the championship.
