This Week in Northern Kentucky Athletics: February 6 – February 12

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – It is officially crossover for Northern Kentucky Athletics as seven programs are in action this week! Men's and women's basketball, men's tennis, women's golf, softball and men's and women's track & field all take to their respective field of competition in a jam-packed week for the Norse.
 
 
MEN'S BASKETBALL

The Northern Kentucky men's basketball program has a big week on the docket with both games featured on either national or regional television.
 
NKU gets the week underway with a Friday showdown against rival Wright State on Feb. 10 inside the Nutter Center. Tip for the game is set for 9 PM ET and the contest will be available nationwide on ESPNU. It is NKU's first nationally televised game of the season.
 
The Norse then return home to Highland Heights for the last regular-season game at Truist Arena on Sunday, Feb. 12 with a tip of 1 PM ET. The pre-Super Bowl contest will be available regionally on Bally Sports Ohio and can also be heard anywhere in the country on ESPN 1530. The game will feature NKU's Senior Day and Black History Month celebrations.
 
Northern Kentucky enters the week in third place overall as of Monday afternoon, with a mark of 10-4 in Horizon League play. The Norse are a half-game back of Milwaukee (10-3) and a game back of Youngstown State (11-3).

Northern Kentucky women's basketball kicks off the week with a home matchup with a huge game against the Jaguars of IUPUI. NKU and the Jags will square off on Monday, Feb. 6 from Highland Heights, Ky. and will tip off at 7 PM ET. This game will see the Norse celebrating National Girls & Women in Sports Day as well. These two programs met once already this season in Indianapolis where the Jaguars downed the Norse in an intense battle at 68-65. Northern Kentucky has dominated IUPUI while playing at home however, posting an all-time record of 13-2 throughout their history. 
 
NKU then hits the road and will travel North to face off against Horizon League opponents Green Bay and Milwaukee. The Norse will meet the Phoenix first in Green Bay, Wis. inside the Kress Center on Friday, Feb. 10 with game time slated for 8 PM ET. NKU and GB have met once this year with the Phoenix winning that game in Highland Heights by a final score of 70-53. Northern Kentucky then wraps up the week at Milwaukee on Sunday, Feb. 12 from the Klotsche Center at 1 PM ET. NKU and the Panthers met inside Truist Arena once already this season, beating Milwaukee 66-60. 
 

MEN'S TENNIS

Northern Kentucky men's tennis enters this week coming off a great win over in-state rival Eastern Kentucky last Saturday evening. The Norse downed the Colonels for the second time this season with a 4-3 home win this time around. NKU began the match taking the doubles point with victories from Josef Zapletal / Bartosz Losiak and Emilio Bravo / Brandon Ponomarew. NKU then finished off EKU with singles wins by Bravo, Zapletal and finally Ponomarew who clinched for the Northern Kentucky.
 
The Norse will welcome a pair of opponents to Kentucky this weekend, first with Eastern Illinois on Friday, Feb. 10 at 3 PM ET and then conclude the week hosting former Horizon League member UIC on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 4 PM ET. These two matches will be held in Crestview Hills inside the Five Seasons Sports Club as well. 
 
 
WOMEN'S GOLF

Northern Kentucky women's golf begins their 2023 spring campaign on the road in sunny Orlando to begin the week as the Norse will play in the three-day tournament which began Sunday, Feb. 5 and will run through Tuesday, Feb. 7. This tournament is hosted by Horizon League adversary Oakland from the Rio Pinar Golf & Country Club in Florida as well, and fans can follow along with all the action at GolfStat. 
 
NKU will see eight total student-athletes competing at the Motor City Classic this week which includes the team of five of Gracie Baun, Emmanuelle Hewson, Reagan Nolan, Abby Cook and Rachel DiDonato. Three Norse individuals will also be competing include Brooke Bihl, Hannah Hall and Ella Hardy
 
 
SOFTBALL

The Northern Kentucky softball program gets the 2023 campaign underway against some of the best teams in the country as the Norse head South to College Station, Texas for the Texas A&M Invitational. NKU will take to the diamond for two games on Friday, Feb. 10, two contests on Saturday, Feb. 11 and one final game on Sunday, Feb. 12.
 

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
- Friday at Marshall Invitational (All Day): Huntington, WV
 
The Norse track & field program returns to the track for one more tune up before the Horizon League Indoor Championships with the Marshall Invitational. The two-day event will run from Friday, Feb. 10 through Saturday, Feb. 11.
