INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky's
Bob Sheehan was announced as a member of the Class of 2023 to be inducted in the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Hall of Fame, announced by the league's office on Thursday.
Sheehan became the head coach of the women's soccer program at NKU in 1997, building the team from scratch. The 1998 season marked the first of GLVC competition for the Norse and NKU went on to claim the conference championship in its first year.
Northern Kentucky followed that in 1999 by winning the GLVC crown once again and making their first of 11 appearances in the NCAA Regional, winning the title and advancing to the first of three NCAA Division I National Championship Semifinals.
Sheehan would go on to win five more GLVC titles, with the Norse making the school's first National Finals appearance in 2000. His teams also finished first in the regular season 10 times as he posted a career record of 252-53-18 to go along with a GLVC mark of 135-23-10.
Additionally, Sheehan was named GLVC Coach of the Year seven times and guided his student-athletes to 64 All-Conference selections to go with four GLVC Players of the Year, three Freshmen of the Year and one Offensive Player of the Year honors.
His student-athletes also claimed 55 All-Region honors and 10 All-America recognitions.
Sheehan remains the coach of the NKU women's soccer program, where he once again built the program from scratch as Northern Kentucky made the jump to the NCAA DI ranks. The Norse won the Horizon League Championship in 2016 and became the first NKU program to reach the NCAA Division I National Championship Tournament in school history in its first year of eligibility for the DI championships.
Sheehan is the only coach in NKU women's soccer program history as he enters his 26th season this upcoming Fall. He picked up his 300th career victory back on August 29, 2017. He was also named the Horizon League's Coach of the Year in 2020. Overall, Sheehan has posted a career mark of 345-135-35 (.669) at NKU.
The GLVC Hall of Fame Class of 2023 will be honored at the Enterprise/GLVC Spring Awards reception at the Embassy Suites in St. Charles, Mo., on Tuesday, May 23.
