2023 NKU MEN'S SOCCER SCHEDULE
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky men's soccer program has announced their 2023 schedule on Friday as head coach
Tom Poitras is set to begin his 2nd season at the helm of NKU. The 2023 schedule features 17 matches overall, broken down into eight non-conference contests and nine Horizon League match ups.
Northern Kentucky will play in three exhibition contests to prep for the upcoming 2023 crusade which first includes traveling to Rio Grande, Ohio to face the University of Rio Grande on Friday, August 11. The Norse will finish the reminder of their exhibition matches at home beginning with local program Thomas More University on Tuesday, August 15 at 7 p.m. at Scudamore Field at NKU Soccer Stadium.
The Norse wrap up their 2023 exhibition matches with SEC powerhouse and in-state rival Kentucky on Saturday, August 19 from NKU Soccer Stadium with kick-off slated for 7 p.m. as well. The Wildcats finished 2022 ranked No. 6 in the nation with an overall record of 15-1-5, finished with a loss to Pittsburgh in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament and will be a great test for the Norse heading into the 2023 season.
"We are excited for some of the new non-conference opponents that we have this year," said Coach Poitras. "This schedule will challenge our team and prepare us for the Horizon League this fall."
The regular season will commence with the home opener on Thursday, August 24 against UAB with a start time of 5 p.m. from Scudamore Field. The Norse then host non-conference foe Florida Gulf Coast that Sunday, August 27 at 1 p.m. to round out the month.
September will kick-off with the Norse hitting the road to take on long-time rival Bellarmine on Monday, the 4th in Louisville. The Norse return home on Saturday, September 9 to open up Horizon League action against Robert Morris at 7 p.m. Northern Kentucky will then see a long stretch on the road as the Norse travel to Bowling Green (Sept. 12), Oakland (Sept. 16) and Southern Indiana (Sept. 19). A pair of home matches will be on deck for the Norse following the road trip, first hosting Detroit Mercy in conference play on Saturday, September 23 at 7 p.m. and then welcoming the Leathernecks of Western Illinois to NKU Soccer Stadium on Tuesday, September 26 with a match time of 7 p.m. as well. The month is finished off with a trip north to the reigning Horizon League regular season and tournament champion Cleveland State on Saturday, September 30 at 7 p.m.
The month of October begins with a non-conference bout against the Zips of Akron on the road on Tuesday, October 3, with the Norse returning home that weekend, Saturday, October 7 to face Green Bay in a Horizon League clash at 1 p.m. in Highland Heights. This contest against the Phoenix will also be Alumni & Family Day at Scudamore Field as the Norse will be in the midst of competing for a Horizon League title. Another road mid-week match for NKU follows as the Norse travel just across the river to Dayton to face the Flyers on Tuesday, October 10 at 7 p.m.
Horizon League action will finish off the remainder of the schedule starting with a home match on Saturday, October 14 against the Jags of IUPUI at 7 p.m. NKU then travels to Milwaukee the following week on Saturday, October 21 and then returns home the following weekend for the home finale against Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday, October 28 at 1 p.m. Northern Kentucky will finish off the regular season on the road against arch rival Wright State Wednesday, November 1 in Dayton, Ohio with kick-off scheduled for 2 p.m.
