SPRINGFIELD, Missouri -- The Northern Kentucky women's triathlon team competed in its first postseason regional triathlon competition in program history at the Heartland Triathlon Cup this weekend. The Norse had three athletes racing the sprint distance triathlon that consisted of a 750m lake swim, 20km four lap bike course, and a 5km two lap run course. Overall, the team finished in 15
th place, and was a great day for the team as individuals, with each athlete recording personal bests at the sprint distance.
Head Coach Brooks Doughtie was impressed with the team's performance at the first postseason event in program history. "Each athlete had a race plan before the race and each athlete went out there and executed to their fullest and did exactly what I thought they could do. I thought Alisha and Timmers did a great job of competing on the bike and they are starting to get a good understanding of what draft legal racing is all about. Sophie's race plan was to do only the swim and use this experience to setup a great nationals in a month. I was really proud of how we are starting to take the next step with competing against these stronger teams. We have a lot to work on before Nationals, but I think they are excited and ready to have their best team showing in a month."
