INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky men's basketball guard
Randall Pettus II has stepped up in a big way in recent weeks, and he was rewarded for his strong effort as he was named the Under Armour Horizon League Freshman of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.
Pettus II was a big factor off the bench as he stepped into a sixth-man role in the Norse's perfect 2-0 slate. The Bessemer City, North Carolina native scored a season and career-best 13 points to go with four rebounds and another season and career-high four assists in NKU's victory over Oakland. He followed it up with eight points, a season and career-best four swipes, three boards and a helper in another win over Detroit Mercy.
For the week, Pettus II averaged 10.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals over the two big Horizon victories.
The freshman guard has averaged 9.3 points off the bench for the Norse over his last seven games played. He has also reached double-digits in points in two of his last three contests.
To go with the bump in points, Pettus II is doing it at an extremely efficient rate from the field, as he has shot 19-of-47 from the field (.404), 9-of-21 from beyond the arc (.429) and a blistering 18-of-20 from the charity stripe (.900) over his last seven games.
The Norse will look to continue their winning ways with a road-trip to Green Bay on Wednesday, February 14. Tip is set for 7 PM ET and the
conference clash will be played in front of a national audience on ESPN+.
