Baseball is a certified wagon; collects tenth straight win

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky baseball program continues to put the nation on notice as the Norse collected their 10th straight victory with a 20-9 defeat of Horizon League foe Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon.
 
The ten wins in a row continues to extend NKU's NCAA Division I era record for most consecutive victories and the 5-0 start in conference play is the best mark recorded by the Norse since Northern Kentucky joined the Horizon League.
 
On the national scene, the Norse are now tied for the third longest active winning streak in NCAA DI baseball. THE BASICS

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jake Paulick led the Norse on offense with another insane day at the dish. He posted a 3-for-5 outing that included four RBI and two runs scored.
- Mitch Wood also had a huge performance with a 2-for-3 afternoon at the plate. His showing included three RBI, two runs and a walk.
- Logen Devenport made it three Norse with three RBI off a 2-for-5 day that included a home run, three RBI and two runs scored.
- The huge performances weren't done there as Jake Altman and Brennan Rowe also had three RBI afternoons. Altman went a near-perfect 5-for-6 with two runs scored while Rowe hit 2-for-4 with three runs and two walks.
- In total, five Norse student-athletes posted three-plus RBI in the victory.
- Liam McFadden-Ackman drove in NKU's other RBI on the day off a 1-for-5 outing that included two runs scored and a walk.
- Northern Kentucky was also flying around the base paths as McFadden-Ackman (two), Cleary Simpson (one), Paulick (one) and Tyler Shaneyfelt all posted a steal.
- The 19 hits and the 20 runs scored for the Norse were the most recorded in a game so far this season.
- Nine different Northern Kentucky student-athletes posted at least one hit in the win.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Northern Kentucky once again got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the first to make it a 2-0 contest.
- NKU added another one in the bottom of the second to make it a 3-0 game.
- Milwaukee tried to answer back with a run in the top of the third and three more in the top of the fourth as the Panthers jumped ahead 4-3.
- Northern Kentucky punched right back with a 10-run bottom of the fifth to retake its advantage at 13-4. The inning was highlighted by RBI doubles by Wood and Devenport, a two-RBI single by Rowe, a three-RBI double off the bat of Paulick, another RBI triple by Wood and a two-RBI blast by Devenport.
- Milwaukee tried to get back in it with five runs in the top of the sixth, but Northern Kentucky answered right away with three runs in the bottom half of the inning that made it a 16-9 contest.
- It was all Norse from that point on as Northern Kentucky closed out the run-rule victory with a run in the bottom of the seventh and three more in the eighth. NEXT UP
The Norse and Panthers will conclude their series with a final game on Sunday, March 24 at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex. First pitch has been moved to 1 PM ET and admission to the conference clash is free of charge.
