LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's volleyball program began its season inside historic Memorial Coliseum as the Norse took on the host Kentucky Wildcats in the 2024 Bluegrass Battle on Friday night.
The Norse put up a fight but ultimately fell to the nation's No. 9 ranked team in the season opener.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Norse received an impressive performance from freshman Allison Risley in her collegiate debut. Risley led NKU in kills and aces.
- Another freshman, Lainey Green, impressed as well. Green led the Norse in assists.
- Ivey Stocks posted three kills and a team-high three blocks in the season opener.
- Lucy Cluxton posted a team-high six digs in the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kentucky surged out to an early lead in the first set and remained in control for a 25-13 win in set one.
- Northern Kentucky took a 2-1 lead in set two, but a scoring run from the Wildcats proved too much to overcome in the second set.
- In the third set, the Norse battled and took a 4-3 lead after back-to-back points from Joy Banks, but another run from the Wildcats brought the match to its conclusion after three sets.
UP NEXT
- The Norse close out their time in Lexington with a doubleheader on Saturday, taking on the No. 26 ranked Western Kentucky Hilltoppers at 10:30 AM before a nightcap vs. the Morehead State Eagles at 7:30 PM ET.
