DEWITT, Ill. -- The NKU women's triathlon team completed their regular season with the Prairie State Collegiate Cup sprint triathlon on Saturday Sept 21st at Clinton Lake, Illinois. The Norse were led by Josie Timmers finishing in 51st place, followed closely behind with Sophie McEwen finishing in 56th place. Rounding out the finishers for the Norse was Kelly Villanueva finishing in 64th place. The collegiate cup triathlon sprint distance race included a total of 12 teams with the NKU Norse women finishing in 10th.
"I was really proud of how the team handled the very hot race conditions," said head coach Brooks Doughtie. "They raced really smart when they needed to, and to get all our athletes to the finish line was a big positive."

HOW IT HAPPENED
A trio of Norse women joined approximately 70 triathletes on the start line on a very hot and humid race day. With an 11:30am local time start, the biggest battle was going to be the heat, and the Norse trio raced smart to secure finishes on the day. Josie Timmers finished with a total time of 1:30:28 for a 51st place overall finish. Sophie McEwen stayed steady throughout the day to finish in 56th place overall with an finishing time of 1:33:21. Kelly Villanueva rounded out the trio of Norse races finishing with a time of 1:53:15 for 64th place overall finish.

NEXT UP
The Norse women now have completed the regular season and look towards the post season. Next event will be the Women's Triathlon West Regional in Springfield, MO on Saturday Oct 12th.
